You Can Take it With You.

There are places in the world that stay with you after you have visited them.

A friend told me a story about being so taken by the beauty of a beach he was walking along that he felt compelled to gather some of the stones that made up its shore. One after another he gathered them, each as beautiful, or more, than the last. Soon though, he was so weighed down by the stones that he couldn't walk. And one by one he had to return the stones to the beach. He looked as he finished telling me his story, and said, 'And then I thought - that's the thing, it's just so beautiful - but you can't take it with you...'

I thought about this. And I thought yes, you can take it with you. But not by gathering stones or shells or seaweed. Because the place is not a physical reality. The stones, the shells, the seaweed = they are all just physical expressions of vibrational energy. What you have to do is become immersed in that energy, achieve a union with that vibration. And then you take it with you. Because you have experienced that you and that place are energetically united, and in unity you have experienced the truth: you are parts of the same whole. There is no separation between you and that place. You are one.

I know this. I have felt it. There is a place I visit regularly everyday although I am apparently 3500 miles away from it.

I discovered Swami's Beach for myself in Dec 2007. Then in Feb 08, alone I took long walk alone starting on D Street, across Moonlight down to Swami's. The sun wasn't shining that day. The Ocean was rising. The surfers stayed out on the water as the fog looked like it was going to come in.

Yet the incredible beauty of the place. Its energetic purity. The frequency of the vibration of the energy in that place: it was more than anything I had felt anywhere else in the world. I could see energy pouring from the sky, the atmosphere, on to the Ocean, rising from the Ocean and in to the rocks, dancing through the rocks and into the sand and emitting from the sand in to the air and in to me as I breathed in. And in exchange with me as I breathed out.

I closed my eyes. I meditated. I cleared my mind until I was no longer conscious of thought. And in the gap, I experienced complete union with this place. With its creation. With its emergence. With its physicality. With its vibrational frequency. I knew the sky, the Ocean, the sand, the rocks, the sun behind the clouds, the surfers, the droplets of mist in the incoming fog- I felt us all as individualised physical creative expressions of one absolute cosmic energy.I had the realisation that the breath I would take in any given moment anywhere in the world would be indivisibly linked to the breath I breathed here. Because that place is within me. As much as I am within that place. There is only the illusion of separation supported by the myth of materialism . The truth is that ultimately we are One. There is only One cosmic consciousness: sometimes expressed in to the form of skies, suns, oceans, stars, sometimes expressed as surfers, meditators, or rocks on a beach.

I think of my friend. No, you can't take it with you. But you can BE with it. You can EXPERIENCE its Truth. And there in that place, alone, you can comprehend it, hear its message, interpret its energetic resonance as meaning. You feel it. You enter it, experience it and unite with it. And in that union is healing: maybe in the form of more energy, more clarity, more insight, inspiration or love.

And then you step out of it healed. And that healing - that you can take with you.

Material form is only a physical memento of that experience, of that unity, of that field in which there is only Being. The meaning of material forms, rocks, shells, stones and sand is only to remind you where you were - that such a place, a field, a dimension exists and that you have visited it. Their beauty is in their beckoning of you to revisit, to re-connect. Their message is to tell you that you know this place. You can come here again. That you can take it with you.

Many times a day, in Scotland, far away from California, where my soul longs to be, I close my eyes and I am right there - united in Love through time and space with the phsical expression of the the cosmic in that exactly location on Swami's in Encinitas. I breathe in and out. And know there is no separation. I feel the healing with in me as the panic and the sadness of separation from that place fades and calmness and wellbeing are restored. With that healing is the knowledge that I take it with me.
